Wear Sunscreen

As Mary Schmich wrote for Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Romeo & Juliet’

‘If I could offer you one piece of advice for the future, Sunscreen would be it! The long-term benefits of sunscreen have been proved by scientists, whereas the rest of my advice has no basis more reliable than my own meandering experience!’

We asked you all, our beloved patients, to share some of your biggest questions, queries & concerns about sunscreen & sun damage! Our team all rallied to give you the answers you’re looking for.

Q. Why do I need to wear sunscreen?

Ultra Violet Radiation (UVR) is responsible for 90% of premature skin ageing and there is no denying that wearing sunscreen daily is well and truly reducing sun damage!

Q. Do I need to reapply facial sunscreen during the day? I put mine under my makeup & worry it wears off.

Yes technically you should, every 2-3 hours.

So you don’t look like a hot mess after reapplying here’s some tips:

  • Apply a 50+ SPF after your serums, moisturisers & under your makeup. Leaving your moisturiser and SPF sunscreen to absorb fully prior to applying makeup.
  • Makeup setting spray with an SPF! Try Kate Somerville UncompliKated SPF 50+ is meant to be sprayed on before, during, and after makeup application, this ultrafine facial mist packs a mean UV-blocking punch. It’s also made with hyaluronic acid to hydrate as it shields skin from the sun.
  • Apply and re-apply your sunscreen correctly, most people start their sunscreen application in the middle of their face and work out…this is the main reason that the top of the forehead, sides of the face, jawline and neck gets more sun damage

Q. I have quite a lot of sun damage on my face. Can it be reversed?

You can definitely reverse some sun damage through a variety of laser rejuvenation and micro needling treatment! All working to support your skins repair and prevent further damage!

Using skin care products with vitamin A base (Rationale) also helps to correct and repair your skin while you sleep!

Q. Are there sunscreens that won’t make my skin super oily?

Yes! Rationale B3T and beautiful skin superfluid are absolute game changers! Providing 50+ protection while giving the skin a beautiful luminous glow, without the oily sunscreen feeling.

Ultraceuticals mattifying daily moisturiser SPF 30+ is also a great option for men!

Q. What is one piece of skincare advice everyone needs to know?

Wearing sunscreen every day.

One of Australia’s leading plastic surgeons that does reconstructive surgery on skin cancer patients stated that he does not administer anti ageing injections unless the patient is wearing sunscreen because sunscreen it the number one anti ageing product.

Without sunscreen the battle for healthy skin is really lost!
